Olympic Riding School
Olympic Riding School
One of our most recent projects, a long standing client appointed us to undertake all the groundwork for an Olympic size riding school and stables to the very highest standard. The school has been constructed to meet competition standard and this involved substantial earthworks, including:
Surveying and marking out the area required - 60 x 25 metres
Stripping the field and preparing the levels
Digging out and removing all clay to reach chalk
Installing a membrane and drainage
3000 tons of clean chalk acquired to level the school
1200 tons of clean single size limestone acquired for drainage and base
Instalation of fencing, kick-boards and gates
300 tons of track fibre surface material
All levelled to precise specification with 25mm tolerance throughout
The lie of the land required significant preparation before further works on drainage could be undertaken. Despite the school being situated in North Hampshire, which is famous for being on a chalk ridge, it was still necessary to acquire additional material to ensure the level of the site met the required specification.
On a remote site and project of this size, our Cat 432F Backhoe really comes in to its own and is the perfect machine for the job.
We were quickly able to define the site and grade the base to level using the Cat along with our grading beam. This significantly improved workflow, enabling us to complete the project on time and within budget.
The scale of the project can really be appreciated from this view, in terms of size at 60m x 25m, but also the undulating lie of the land that needed to be overcome and levelled to precise tolerances of 25mm maximum throughout.
Once the base was level, we undertook the drainage work and applied the membrane for the entire area.
And here is the area virtually complete aside from cosmetic landscaping to finish the site.
The Stables
The Stables
We were asked to prepare the Stable base for the Riding School that consists of 8 stables, Tack room, Feed room, Wash room, Solarium and a Vets office.
We finalised the base for a Stable contractor to complete the wood frame and roof. We then completed the internal fit out - electrics, plumbing and carpentry.
We also undertook all the groundworks and landscaping leading up to and around the Stable block. Here is a view of work nearing completion.
For the Courtyard, we undertook the paving and surrounding concrete hard standing. The quality of finish, inside and out, of this stable block needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.
It's all in the detail. Every block laid by hand with precision. Consistent joints, level and with appropriate drainage considered and incorporated.
New build projects
New build projects
Another recent project, a 4 bedroom detached new build dwelling with an external Garage/Workshop.
Before any construction could begin, we had to clear and prepare the site which included an old Tennis Court. We then made provision for the necessary services.
The building itself was of timber construction with external brickwork and partial clad in Cedar. All electrical, plumbing and finishing, including the landscaping of the extensive grounds, were also undertaken by ourselves.
3 Bedroom detached house
3 Bedroom detached house
This property was designed, built and sold by us as a development project, R Beere & Sons Builders Ltd undertaking all aspects of the project.
Conventionally built, this property consisted of 1 master bedroom with en-suite shower room, 2 further bedrooms, 1 master bathroom, a generous reception area with downstairs shower and toilet, study, living area, kitchen/diner, utility room and separate garage with off road parking for numerous cars. The property benefited from enclosed gardens at the front and rear.
The property sold for full asking price in 2012.
Home office
Home office
Situated within a conservation area, this Outbuilding was commissioned to act as part workshop, part home office. Built to the highest specification for heat retention and aesthetics, it cleverly resembles a garage from the roadside, but hides its size and function discretely.
The construction of this building required particular care and attention due to the very close proximity to a mains sewer and a land drain that ran across the property. We managed the build with the respective authorities and ensured the reinforced floating concrete base met the exacting standards required.
The return corner window that benefits from uninterrupted rural views, required bespoke steel fabrication as well as joinery for the floor to ceiling windows. The building was clad using high grade Douglas Fir, the joinery using the same material to match.
Renovations
Renovations
This project involved extensive renovation, alteration and extension to the existing property. The original building was an early 1980s construction, much smaller and fell short of our clients living requirements.
We undertook all aspects of this build right through to end decoration. The property is now a 5 bedroom Chalet/Bungalow design with external garage/workshop and landscaped gardens.
Extensions
Extensions
This extension was sympathetically applied to a property that dated back to the 1700s. It comprised of a large double sized bedroom with family bathroom, a generous lounge and entrance hallway.
Materials were chosen to match the existing as best as possible. With time, the brickwork and tiling weathers and tones down to become a seamless addition to the property.
Groundwork & landscaping
Groundwork & landscaping
Another recent project, we undertook significant groundworks on a property to enable provision for off road parking. Situated within a small rural village, the main through road sees significant traffic flows throughout the course of the day. Due to the proximity of the property and work area to the road, we implemented the necessary traffic control measures to ensure we could safely undertake the work as quickly and efficiently as possible.
The site itself was very steeply graded which posed a challenge. The result was the removal of in excess of 500 tons of material that gave not only the area for parking, but the required sighting lines required by the authorities to permit the new access to the road.
Once the area was prepared, we then built the retaining walls and steps then completed the hard standing.
The gardens were also landscaped to suit.
Despite the extent of the work involved, the site has settled and blended in well with its surroundings.
